"After Star Wars was released, it became apparent that my story however many films it took to tell was only one of thousands that could be told about the characters who inhabit its galaxy. But these were not stories that I was destined to tell. Instead they would spring from the imagination of other writers, inspired by the glimpse of a galaxy that Star Wars provided. Today it is an amazing, if unexpected, legacy of Star Wars that so many gifted writers are contributing new stories to the Saga."

- George Lucas, from the introduction of Splinter of the Mind's Eye, 1996

Updates

12th April, 2016

I've found the stories on my data stick and I am currently coding the new pages for them. I cannot believe that it has been this long since I worked on this site, but it is not my main project now, just something to dip in occasionally while working on other projects. The second part of The Floating Fortress is up, finally! When I get around to it, I shall also be moving the gallery from the bravenet photocenter and making one here from a php script I found. I am currently looking for ways to turn the site into a php scripted archive, so that people can create accounts and upload their work themselves, instead of having me code it for them. That process is very time consuming.

The first part of M. J. Sullivan's Floating Fortress is now up! I need to edit the links, etc, but I will do that when I've finished coding and uploading the rest of the story.

Finally, at long last, I've added Stranger in a Strange Land, Son of Courage and Confrontation to the site. I still need to add John E. Martin's work and Mitchell J.Sullivan's story. There are probably some strange links showing up which I've not had chance to edit yet. (Sadly, something which can happen when moving sites.... I would like to find The Drunken Gungan website if it is still around, my old link to it no longer works, or the stories on the Force.net if they are on the boards, and the same for Mitchel J. Sullivan's work if the stories have the same characters in them.

It has been a long time since I did anything on this site, a little too long, if you ask me! The break was not intended and occurred because of family issues, this time, rather than anything which had been planned. I apologise for that, and for my long neglect of the site. I still love the concept of SWCC, and will continue to have the site hosted, for as long as I can, so it won't just disappear. Several things have happened since the last update.

First of all, the old bravenet site, which I was using as a backup while I was sorting out this whole moving hosts back and forth was closed by the host because they no longer do free websites. I had everything backed up though, so fortunately no stories were lost bar one. I have also taken the decision not to host three of the stories by Fels Goddess anymore. This is nothing personal against the author, and you are very much welcome to submit any new stories - I just felt that the stories weren't long enough for the site and I have removed some of mine which I should have finished by now, but haven't. I can't state that the site only accepts completed stories when I've not finished some of mine...I get a bit over enthusiastic, intend to finish things, but something always seems to distract me from finishing them - sometimes (as with my time at uni) this is a good thing, other times it isn't!

Secondly, for the moment, we do not have a forum. What happened is this - proboards have upgraded the forum, which is fair enough, but at the moment, I am unable to make a theme, etc, because it is still in the beta stage and I thought that it would be best to hold off reactivating it until I've had a chance to revamp it. This is probably a good thing, in someways because I need to work on other web projects and a forum is a big venture. I may even upgrade the hosting at bravenet so that I can use a dwn subdomain for the forum, but we'll have to see what finances are like, and if I can justify upgrading it.

Last but not least, I have finally got the story pages sorted out. We do not have stories for every era (yet...) and this is either because I am working on the story which used to be listed there, or because there have been no submissions yet to that era. The era sections are based on the novels timeline - for instance, New Jedi Era refers to the Yuuzhan Vong war, not when Luke Skywalker set up his academy on Yavin 4. However, if you need clarification you are welcome to drop me a line and I can clear things up, or just simply use the novel timeline as a guide.

All of the chapters of Heavy Lifting are now up on the site, and the vignette, Appearances can be Deceiving has been added. Enjoy! :)

28th June, 2012

Chapter 3, Chapter 4 of Heavy Lifting is now up!

22nd June, 2012

Timeline page done (sort of). There are still some novels that I need to add to it because I am not up to date with it, but at least it is there!

22nd June, 2012

Added the first two chapters of Heavy Lifting!

Legend of Blacksaber linkage sorted! There is some news about the bravehost.com subdomain site - the move really does need to start in ernest because free bravehost sites will be deleted at the end of next month. It looks like I finished the FLs just in time! I have done some work on the site this evening and I have done most of the site pages. I need to start on moving across the stories tomorrow!

12th June, 2012 - Legend of Blacksaber Up!

Now that the fanlistings have been moved over to bravenet, I have restarted work on SWCC again! Yay. SWCC has been neglected for far, far too long and I now hope to change that. I have finished uploading the chapters for the Legend of Blacksaber and links to them can be found below. I still need to do some work on the linkage, though, so don't be alarmed if they don't work (and I already know that they don't, so you don't need to inform me of it.) If you use the back button on the browser, it should bring you back to the home page so that for now, you can use that if you want to read the story.

14th April, 2012 - Update Post 2

I've managed to upload a significant number of images, which can be viewed in the Old School section (though there are some more which I would like to see if I can salvage next week - there are many images that could be on an old PC.) I've also worked on the link buttons page, and created place holder pages for the Jedi Girl Tribute Page and the Lost Holocrons Page (which is dedicated to those SW sites which have been lost over the years, or which aren't updated any more.)

14th April, 2012

This has taken me a little longer than I intended, but I have now uploaded and created a page for the old link buttons. People can still use them to link to SWCC if they so wish. You can find it buy clicking on the OLD SCHOOL page and following the link to old link buttons!

OK, it's been a while, hasn't it? I found some old images on photobucket and because the site has been online for almost 10 years now in one shape or form, I decided to do a section of the site dedicated to the history of SWCC, and the Star Wars online community in general. Much has happened over the years, been created and then lost... and I think it deserves to be recorded. Hopefully, one day these sites will be back, but I doubt it.

New location and domain! After 8 years, Star Wars Character Cafe finally gets its own domain (sort of). It's still a sub domain, but the domain it is part of is actually owned by me, instead of being geocities.swcc, swcc.bravehost, or swcc.webs or something. SWCC is an old school site, surviving through the times when all I had to maintain it was computers at the library, through the times when it seemed every Star Wars site was closing down every other week and through my own absence from the site while I was at university. Things are somewhat quieter now than they used to be we're still here. We're still accepting stories and fan art, and because almost all the other Star Wars fan fiction sites are no longer around, SWCC is no longer just restricted to original and minor characters. Stories about all characters are accepted, as long as they fit in with the ethos of the site.
